Tae Yoon

Tae Sang Yoon, passed away peacefully at home on September 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 18, 1942, in Seoul, Korea, Tae Sang's journey through life was marked by his steadfast pursuit to love and be loving. He was the beloved husband of Jungja Yoon, with whom he shared more than five decades of marriage, and a loving father and grandfather.

Tae Sang's early life was shaped by the events of the Korean War, during which he demonstrated his ingenuity by saving the family's prized possession – his mother's Singer sewing machine – by disassembling the parts and burying the pieces in the yard. After the war, he unearthed each piece and put them back together. He pursued his education at Chung Dong High School and earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Hanyang University, the premier institution for engineering in Korea at the time. He obtained a second Master's degree from the Polytechnic Institute of NYU (now NYU Tandon School of Engineering).

In 1971, Tae Sang and his wife, Jungja, embarked to the United States with limited resources but boundless hope. Tae Sang's career was as diverse as it was impressive. He began as a high school teacher in Korea, then worked various jobs in the US to support his family, including as a haberdasher and art gallery owner before dedicating his talents to the US government as a mechanical engineer at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard and eventually for BAE Systems.

Tae Sang's life was a testament to his belief that one should do everything with a whole heart. This philosophy was evident in his dedication to his family, his work, and his community. Tae Sang enjoyed golfing at Paxon Hollow Golf Club, music, art, and reading -- with a particular interest in philosophy, history, and archaeology. From flipping houses in his youth to grilling general contractors in his old age, Tae Sang could fix anything or figure out how it could be done.

Tae Sang is survived by his wife, Jungja Yoon, who was the little girl he remembered seeing on his way to school and later recognized as his soulmate. He leaves behind his daughters, Lisa Yeongmi Yoon, Christine Gi Young Yoon (Ricky Kwan), and Janet Suzie Yoon; his grandchild, Eunice Yoonhee Rhee; step-grandchildren, Sydney and Miles Kwan. As the eldest son of a large family, he leaves behind eight siblings and their 25 children. They include his sisters Yoon Tae Suk, Yoon Tae Yun, Yoon Insu, and Grace Hyeseong Lee, and brothers Yoon Ryang, Yoon Tae Kwon, Yoon Tae Woo, and Yoon Taegu.

Tae Sang was predeceased by his parents, Yoon Woo Sun and Nam Kap Soon.

Tae Sang's life story is one of triumph over adversity, unwavering love, and being fulfilled through hard work and dedication. His laugh lines were a testament to his joyful disposition. He lived without raising his voice, acting selfishly, or harboring malice, embodying the virtues of selflessness and love. He will be deeply missed, and his teachings and the memories he created will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his remarkable life. Tae Sang believed in living life to the fullest and to the best of our abilities, and the family asks that you do the same. Please go out and do something that brings you joy. If you feel so moved, please tell us about it or about a joyful time you spent with Tae Sang. Or, share your photos with us https://tinyurl.com/tsyoon.

In keeping with the family wishes, interment will be private. Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service on Saturday, September 14 at 11:00 AM in the Logan-Videon Funeral Home at 2001 Sproul Road Broomall, PA 19008.

June 21, 2023

On Saturday, June 3, 2023, Dale Evan Coleman, of Blackwood NJ, passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 75. Dale was born April 22, 1948 in Oakland, California. He graduated high school in Cupertino, California, and attended military service school in Vallejo, California shortly after.

He went on to serve in the Navy for 6 years as a Fire Control Technician, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Award. After being honorably discharged from service as a Petty Officer 2nd Class, he went on to work at the Philadelphia Navy Yard for 21 years as a civilian Electronics Integrated Systems Mechanic.

During his 21 years in the Navy Yard, he proudly served as an engineer on many ships, including the USS Albany, USS Kitty Hawk, USS Missouri, USS Forrestal, USS Constellation, USS Detroit, USS John F. Kennedy, among many others. He was directly involved with installing, testing, and repairing the Aegis Combat System. He spent time on the fleet in the Mediterranean, and thereafter enjoyed his time as a Shop 67 “Yard Bird” at the shipyard.

After the shipyard closed, Dale returned to college to become a fiber optics technician. He graduated in 1999 and went on to work at places such as Metrologic Instruments, where he repaired scanners.

Besides serving his country, Dale was also a fiancé and a grandpa. He's survived by his fiancé, Teresa Langner, and his children, Laura Coleman, Joel Coleman, Claire (Michael) Sheridan, and Rachel (Brant) Traux and his grandchildren, Michael and Melody Sheridan. He is also survived by his sister, Donna (Timothy) Dreis, his niece, Nicole (Sean) Quackenbush, and his great nephew, Harrison. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his son Isaac Coleman, who was probably waiting for him with open arms on the other side. He was also preceded in death by his former wife, Catherine, his parents, Norma Ruth and Harry, and three half siblings he never had the opportunity to meet (Maryann Coleman Briggs, Kathryn Coleman Idlett and Harry Coleman, Jr.).

Dale enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren at activities such as Santa visits, Christmas light shows, military air shows, trips to the shore, sleepovers filled with cartoons, visits to the mall, and spoiling them with McDonald's and other treats and toys.

Dale loved tinkering from an early age. He was always building something - whether it was building a Heath kit tv, long/short wave radios, building rabbit hutches for his daughter, building computers from parts, or designing and helping his children build school projects, or even tinkering with his own inventions! He repaired almost every issue on the cars he owned, and only stopped during the last 2 years as his mobility waned. He also volunteered for many years as our local church's AV and soundboard lead. I enjoyed hearing stories about his curiosities growing up, including reading his Encyclopedias like a novel and burning a hole in his mother's stove with his chemistry set. Dale also loved sci-fi, physics, astronomy, and cosmology. As a result, there wasn’t an episode of Star Trek he didn’t see. He held New Year's Eve movie marathons when his kids were younger. He always kept a stack of sci-fi and astronomy books next to his chair of choice - the La-Z-Boy.

He will be missed dearly, especially by his fiancé. During his recent illness, she spent every day with him wherever he was, keeping him comfortable and being his advocate. Please say a prayer for her as she navigates her future without him.

In the words of the Capt. Jon C. Bergner, the Philadelphia Navy Yard’s last commander. Jack Ritchie

John J. “Jack” Ritchie, age 73, of Aldan, PA, passed away on October 17, 2022. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the youngest son of the late Willard and Helene Ritchie (nee Lafferty).

Jack grew up in the Highland Park section of Upper Darby alongside his brother and many Lafferty cousins. He was a graduate of St. Laurence School and then Monsignor Bonner High School (Class of 1968) in Drexel Hill, and played as wide receiver on the football team while there.

Jack served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970 in the mechanized 5th Infantry Division. Upon return, he studied and apprenticed as a plumber, but eventually moved to less “crappy” work at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. He retired from the Navy Yard as a Planning Estimator after three decades (and many friendships) there.

By nature (plus trial and error), there was nothing Jack could not build or repair by hand. Often found with a Miller Lite nearby, Jack made major additions and renovations to his longtime home including building a family room (with the help of friend, Tom Bowen). He enjoyed many hours in that room until he passed there. He loved fishing and boating …and seafood. Thanks to his Lafferty side, he was an adventurous eater and loved spicy foods. The man never met a hot sauce he would not try. Jack loved fine dining foods as much as cheesesteaks, hot dogs, or Buffalo wings (of which he had won a few hot wing contests in New Jersey bars).

He was an original “girl dad” before that term was coined and made popular. As evidenced by coaching his daughter, Kate, in both the Aldan Girls Club and St. Joseph’s Collingdale softball teams. Paul D. Dear
February 16, 1931 - September 26, 2022

Born on February 16, 1931; Paul passed away on Monday, September 26 at age 91, after a fall. Paul was the devoted husband of Rosalie Mattioni Dear (D). Loving father of John (Nancy), Steven and Marc (Marion) Dear. The son of John David Dear Sr. and Margaret McDade Dear, Paul and his brothers were raised by his loving stepmother Anna Samworth Dear after Margaret passed when he was 12. He is survived by his two brothers, Ron and Greg Dear of Seattle WA. Paul was predeceased by Rosalie, his parents, stepmother and his brother David Dear of Ocala, FL. Paul married Rosalie on October 15, 1955 and the two of them began 65 years of married life. Paul had many interests, however Rosalie and his family were always first.

Paul and Rosalie were wonderful Grandparents to their ten grandchildren, Joshua, Ali (Micheal), Kayley, Jacob (Saghana), Jason, Rosalie, Carter, Eva, Cara and Marina. Paul also welcomed two great grandchildren, Mateo Dear and Tristan Sorg.
Paul attended Bucknell College from 1950 to 1953 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. After Graduation from Bucknell, Paul was hired at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard where he spent the next 36 years helping to keep the world's largest Navy running at peak performance; handling the positions as a lead for the Vibration Analysis group and as a Sea Trial Coordinator for the aircraft carriers and support vessels that would enter the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for repairs and upgrades. The upgrades and overhaul of the USS New Jersey was a job that had a special meaning to him. He spent many years traveling to vessels overseas to prepare for their arrival at the yard for repairs or to provide analysis of poorly performing equipment.

Paul married Rosalie Mattioni in October of 1955 and had an amazing 65 years of married life. Paul was an excellent handyman and loved working on his houses on 1018 Tyson Ave and 39 Monroe Drive; updating and fixing the houses as his family grew to include his three sons. When the Mattioni Family purchased the "Beach House" in 1970, Paul worked diligently with his brother and sister-in-laws each year to open the house and maintain the old home for the many years they owned the family beach house. It was a house filled with many fond memories.
Paul and Rosalie were very successful as a couple, owning a number of homes over the years. When John graduated college and was looking to purchase a home, Paul and Rosalie were there to help. When Paul's mother Ann needed a place to live after selling her home in Philadelphia, there was a home in Cherry Wood she could move to. When Marc and Marion returned from Japan, Paul and Rosalie were able help them get settled in. Paul and Rosalie were always ready to assist, and their support came from an incredibly generous heart.

Paul was active in Abington Baptist Church and became a Deacon at Somerdale Presbyterian Church after they moved to NJ in 1969. He loved Bowling, Golf, and Baseball both as a participant and a fan always rooting for our Philadelphia home teams. He played competitive chess, never letting his children beat him and he was an umpire in the Blackwood Kiwanis League when his children played little league baseball. His recent trip to the Phillies Game; just weeks before his passing, for their 9th inning win over the Marlins will be a memory cherished all of us.
When his sons became interested in skiing in the mid '70s, Paul and Rosalie headed to the slopes in their mid-40's to learn how to ski. Being committed to the point of sharing the rental of a home in the Pocono's with Rosalie's Brothers and Sisters. Never a master but always an avid participant, it is a memory his sons carry fondly.
Paul's booming voice was something friends from the neighbor still fondly recall; his "Johnny, Stephen and Marc, DINNERTIME!" was a call for all the kids in the neighborhood; and most knew that it was time to come home when Mr. Dear calls in the boys.

Paul's greatest gift was his empathy for those in need. Whether driving a friend or family member to a doctor's appointment or helping a grandchild who needed a ride to their music or sports practice. Paul counted Joe Bavuso among his closest friends, so when Joe became ill there was no question that Paul would be there to help him with trips to dialysis and doctor's visits.

As Rosalie and Paul's grandchildren arrived, Paul became Paul-Paul to this younger generation; his love for his ten grandchildren was readily apparent, and spending time with them as they grew to adulthood was one of his greatest joys. One always knew there would be great food, conversation, and joy during visits with Paul and Rosalie.
Their house was always a welcome spot for their grandchildren to stay. When Stephen, Eva, and Marina moved out west; flying home to visit with Paul-Paul and Nana were trips that remain as highlights of their travels back East.
Nana and Paul-Paul were always willing to host family events, even as their family expanded. Rosalie and Paul's 50th wedding anniversary family retreat to the Breaks Interstate Park in Virginia where they rented cabins and hosted the entire family was one especially memorable week filled with joy, happiness and fun.
Paul traveled much in his life, whether it was for work on the Naval Ships or for family trips; he was always ready to drive or fly. Kansas City with Rosalie and Marc, vacations to the Northwest to visit his brothers in Seattle, trips to Disney World with John and Nancy or with Stephen and Aase, an RV adventure to New England with sister Mary's family, Italy with his brothers and sisters and a family trip to Jenny and Simon's Wedding in Seattle. Whatever the invitation, he was always game to try.
Paul and Rosalie contracted Covid in December of 2021. After three weeks in the hospital and six weeks of convalescence at Manor Care Rehab, West Deptford, NJ Paul moved to All American Assisted Living in Sewell, NJ. Paul lost his Rosalie to Covid at this time, but he displayed amazing resilience at All America and was a loved member of the community. He always worked hard to maintain his strength and loved the people, activities, and events hosted by All American. Paul's last 18 months were a blessing to his family.

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 5th at 1:30 pm at the Westtown Friends Meeting, 215 Friends Meeting Ln, West Chester, PA 19382.

Paul loved to garden and he loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Donations in lieu of Flowers can be made to achildshaven.org

It is with a heavy heart I am passing on the sad news of Tim's (A.K.A. Tiny Tim) passing. Tim was a PNSY Shipfitter, and Shipfitter Foreman, as well as a friend to many of us Yardbirds. He was my teacher when I transferred to PNSY from NAEC in 1974. He taught me a lot about building and repairing ships as well as how the shipyard worked. I've stayed in touch with Tim through the years, we spoke every other month or so. It was fun listening to the old stories of how we both made our way in the shipyard. Frank Spadafora, passed away on May 29, 2017.

On May 29, 2017 of Glassboro. Age 66. Beloved husband of Barbara A. (nee Nuss). Devoted father of Michael A. (Trinette) and Tina M. Spadafora. Loving grandfather of Isaiah, Hanna and Alyssa. Dear brother of Pamela Chappell, Mary Pasquale, John, James, Paul and the late Kenneth Spadafora.

Frank was born on December 29th 1950, in Brooklyn, New York. He was the third child of Elsie and Frank Spadafora. He grew up in Brooklyn then Queens and had a paper route. He attended Aviation High School in New York City. After graduation, Frank moved to Turnersville, New Jersey with his dad, mom, brothers and sisters. He enlisted for 4 years in the Navy. After boot camp, he reported for duty at Quonset Point, Rhode Island. He was assigned to a helicopter squadron. His role was to keep the helicopters well maintained. In 1970, he met Barbara at a swim club dance, he attended with friends, while on weekend leave. They were married in 1971. They soon had 2 children, Michael and Tina. Frank's enlistment ended just before Michael was born and he went to work for a small company, owned by his friend Bill's uncle, that did quality assurance inspection at the Salem Nuclear Power Plant. He x-rayed welds to ensure they had no defects. In 1976, he continued this work at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard and advanced to the position of Film Interpreter. He analyzed the industrial x-rays of ship components and created maps of the structural weaknesses he found so the welders could redo them.

Frank liked to build things and do renovations on homes he owned over time. His favorite things to build were decks. He also renovated several kitchens and bathrooms. Frank even built a fireplace in one home. One special project he did was to build a camper in the back of his pickup truck. He took the family on many adventurous camping trips up and down the east coast from sunny Florida to Bar Harbor, Maine. He loved visiting state and national parks, and historic landmarks. His favorite place to visit was the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. He never tired of driving the winding roadways, taking in the breathtaking views at the overlooks, and touring the caverns. As his camping experience grew, he progressed to a pop-up camper and then eventually to a conversion van. The most adventurous trip he took with the family was in 1986 when he went across the country. He visited the Grand Canyon (Arizona), Grand Teton National Park (Wyoming), the Air Force Academy (Colorado), and a Native American Reservation also in Wyoming. Frank trekked down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back to the top with his son Michael, while the girls waited anxiously for their safe return.

Frank retired early when the Navy Yard closed and pursued one of his lifelong dreams, to build an entire house. His son, Michael, purchased a property on East Holly Ave. Frank and Mike demolished the old house on the property and they built a new house on it. They also renovated an old pole barn and turned it into a workshop. As his family grew to include grandchildren, Isaiah, Hanna, and Alyssa, Frank devoted much of his time and attention to babysitting, driving them places, picking them up from school, and attending soccer games, science fairs, dance recitals, holiday concerts, Halloween parades, field days, tennis matches, gymnastic performances, robotic competitions, pumpkin launches, and mock trials. He loved his grandchildren so much and was extremely proud of all of them. The grandkids held a special place in his heart.

He took care of his ill and aging parents in the last years of their life and worked hard to prepare their house for sale after their passing. In 2008, he moved to the Village Grande at Camelot in Glassboro, New Jersey. He enjoyed being at the community pool in the summer, swapping stories and news with all of his neighbors all year long, and using his tablet to keep up with friends on Facebook. He liked to go to the Atlantic City casinos to play slot machines, eat at the buffets where he indulged in his favorites (steak, crab legs, shrimp, and Italian pasta), and swim in the indoor pools.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation Friday 12:30-2:00 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service 2:00 PM. Inurnment, Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's memory may be made to the Veterans Advisory Council "Veterans Helping Veterans", P.O. Box 337, Woodbury, NJ 08096. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.egizifuneral.com

Kevin P. Meehan 56 Shop PNSY

On January 3, 2017 of Washington Twp. Age 63. Beloved Husband of Patricia (nee O’Donnell). Devoted father of Sean P. (Michell), Timothy (Jill) and Kerry Meehan (Michelle). Loving grandfather of Gabby, Samantha, George, Liam, Cameron, Amanda, Mickey and Tommy.
Dear brother of Joseph F. Barnett, Jr., Michael B., Margaret F. and the late Martha Esher.

Kevin was a loving husband and a great dad. He battled courageously against every obstacle life threw at him. He loved "God , family and country." Kevin was the first in his family to graduate college. He was the epitome of the term lifelong learner.
When the closing of the Navy yard forced him to change careers, he went back to school to take education classes and ultimately became a teacher of his biggest love, history. He ultimately went on to earn his masters degree in educational administration.
Kevin's quest for knowledge didn't end there. He took classes in pipefitting, tuned in to any and all shows to do with history, read the newspaper cover to cover and even sat and read the encyclopedia like one might read a good novel. He traveled extensively in Europe to many counties to experience the sites where major events shaped history.
Kevin loved camping and hiking the Appalachian trail where he was famous for getting lost in the woods. He loved to tell corny jokes, provide text commentary during Eagles games and coin Kevinisms such as "going to the carnival is like buying a hot dog." He also loved God and helping others. He was a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer to his church's food pantry.
Kevin's first love was his family. His proudest accomplishment was his three sons who are honest, productive members of society now raising families of their own. He was happiest when surrounded by not only his immediate family but also his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Through his final moments he continued to selflessly think of others. Concerned about his wife and family rather than his own condition, he passed away as he lived life - on his terms.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday
7:00-9:00 PM and Saturday 8:45-9:45 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home
119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM at Mary Mother of Mercy Parish/Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, Glassboro. Entombment, All Saints Cemetery, Newfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kevin’s memory may be made to Mary Mother of Mercy Parish, 500 Greentree Rd., Glassboro, NJ 08028.
